Quirky Wedding in Durham | Jennie + Ian Get Married
This beautiful bride described her wedding as quirky! Jennie and Ian decided to have all of their friends and family use the WeddingMix app + HD cameras to capture all the priceless, candid moments throughout their special day. Not only will they get a personalized wedding video made from their guests’ best footage, they’ll also be able to relive their amazing wedding day for the rest of their lives! Congratulations to the happy couple! 🙂
I would say that I was most proud of planning an event that stayed true to our personalities. We wanted to enjoy the time with our friends but also celebrate the things that make us unique individually and as a couple. For example, during dinner we played trivia because trivia is something very important to my husband and me. We play every week with our group of friends and take it very seriously. While playing games is not something people “traditionally” do, it was a great way to get people who may not know each other talking to one another. My husband would say that he is most proud of brewing the beer and cider for all of our guests. Homebrewing is one of his hobbies and he put much time into making 500 bottles of different types of beer and cider. It is something that he loves and wanted to share it with everyone else.

Basically, we chose WeddingMix because of our budget. Originally we thought that we wouldn’t be able to have a wedding video because of the cost. And rationally, you pay thousands of dollars for a wedding video and then probably only watch it a few times after the wedding fever dies down. However, we had several family members who weren’t able to attend our wedding and we wanted to be able to share the day with them. When I found WeddingMix, I was so excited because it was a way to capture our day without the huge price tag. Plus, I love having all the footage from our guests and seeing the day from their perspective.
My favorite moment of the night was our first dance. I have a dance background, while my husband hates dancing (especially in public). He knew dancing was important to me so he offered to take lessons. While expensive, private lessons were a really fun thing to do in the weeks leading up to the wedding.
Our band was also amazing. My husband likes hard rock while I prefer pop music, and our band fused those together by doing hard rock covers of popular songs (think rocking out to “Shake It Off”). For our first dance we did a very cheesy choreographed dance to the beginning of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” and then busted out into “This is How We Do It” to get everyone on the dance floor. It was such a fun moment because it was a total shock to everyone who did not expect my husband to dance or at least not to dance well and with confidence!
Another special moment was having my Mom walk me down the aisle. My father passed away several years ago and I knew it was really important for my Mom to be the one by my side going down the aisle. While I definitely am not a proponent of having someone “give a woman away,” it was important for my Mom to demonstrate her support of our marriage. When the minister asked “Who presents this woman to be married?,”my Mom responded, “On behalf of those here today and those who have gone before, I give my blessing to this union.”
