Kilts, Kisses, and Split Pants Wedding in North Carolina | Sarah + Nick
You know your wedding reception is AWESOME when someone splits their pants on the dance floor. And that’s just one of the hilarious clip captured by WeddingMix couple Sarah and Nick’s family and friends!
Not only was the bride lovely in her elegantly long dress, their wedding guests looked like they were having a BLAST while dancing to classics like “Come on Eileen” and contemporary tunes like “Low” (courtesy of the fantastic wedding music pros from Raleigh Events DJ). Check out Sarah and Nick’s wedding video in North Carolina and be on the look out for some kilt-clad men, ripped pants, and truly romantic first kisses.
Nick and I met at work, I had been there for almost 4 years and he was new. We only saw each other a few times here and there since we worked different shifts. I thought he was a nice guy and when I was moved to his shift I would enjoy chatting with him at the hospitals. We worked together for a brief period, but it was about a year before we exchanged information. We would text quite a bit, then chat on the phone when we were off work. It took awhile for me to figure out he was interested, and a little longer before I agreed to date a co-worker. Thankfully he was patient with me, (a bit frustrated too!), but it all worked at it’s own pace and I’m so happy to be married to Nick.
How did he propose? Were you expecting it?
My favorite place is Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs, Va. I’ve worked at camps there for 14 years, plus I was a camper from ages 11-17. Nick was visiting during our training week and he wanted to take a hike we had gone on a few years before. Unfortunately, my schedule didn’t allow that long of a hike. I wanted him to meet a few friends and get a Coke from the rectory. It’s a bit of a walk, you’re pretty much walking up the side of a mountain. We got to the outdoor cathedral and Nick bent over in front of the stairs at the bottom of the aisle.
I said: “It’s just that building right there, pointing to a cabin only about 50ft away.”
He said “Give me a minute”
I thought or (may have sarcastically said…) something along the lines of “Are you going to die on me”.
That’s when he got down on one knee and asks me to marry him. It turns out he was fishing in his cargo pocket and was using the “exhaustion” as an excuse. I, of course, said yes.
In Nick’s version of the story – I was dramatic and hysterical, which I disagree with! There was actually a witness cleaning the alter during the proposal. She turned and asked “Did I just hear a proposal? Why we didn’t tell me to leave?” I didn’t know! It would have been a bit suspicious if Nick had asked her to leave too. So I think this summer I’m going to find her and get her rendition of the story. 🙂
Tell us what part of your wedding planning you are most proud of.
I would say we are most proud of the location. Nick went home with the task of finding locations for the wedding. I love my church, but not the building, so we decided on an outdoor ceremony. We of course wanted a place with an indoor option since we chose to have the wedding in April. Nick had a few places picked out and we visited one. Crenshaw Hall in Wake Forest, NC is where we had the wedding and reception. It’s an antebellum house with a garden that had a small stage with lattice work that was very pretty. There is also a 5,000 sq ft tent with a cement floor on the other side of the house. Depending on the weather, we could open up the sides and have fans or keep them closed for warmth. Again this is April in NC, we could get anything weather wise! We had an option of having the ceremony inside if the weather was bad. Thankfully the weather was perfect, 70 degrees and a beautiful sunny day, we couldn’t have asked for better weather.
Tell us why you why using the WeddingMix app was appealing for your big day?
I know a lot of friends use their phones for pictures all the time. This was an easy way to get those candid shots and random videos during the reception. We had complete confidence in our wedding photographer, but he couldn’t be everywhere at once.
What special moments from your wedding do you want to remember forever?
I danced to almost every song once the floor was opened. I had so much fun dancing with my new husband and all my friends and family. I had a blast at my wedding. Another wonderful memory is the smell of the Hyacinths as I walked down the aisle with my father at my side to stand beside my future husband. Of course, I cannot capture the smell in a photo, but the plants looked great too! After the ceremony they were moved to the tables as center pieces. I see the pictures of the aisle and think of that great smell, and when I smell hyacinths I think of those rows of flowers leading me to my loving husband.
