Audra + Andy | Breathtaking Lake Michigan Wedding in Wisconsin
We are joined today by guest blogger bride, Audra, who worked with us through her Storymix Affiliate vendor, Milwaukee DJ Ed Eaton of Sound Sensations Entertainment.
Andy and I met and started our relationship in February 2011, we got engaged four months later, and were married at Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan, WI on September 22, 2012. We chose Blue Harbor as our location for the ceremony and reception because of its breathtaking views of Lake Michigan. We knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony, and couldn’t think of a more appropriate setting.
We both had such a fun time with all of the planning. Once the big decisions were made regarding location, florist, photographer, and DJ, the rest fell into place. Our goal was to plan a day that was simple, yet classy; a wedding that people would walk away from and remember as being a great day full of love.
While our day started off a little chilly, and a few times throughout our ceremony I thought the sky was going to open up on us, it turned out to be an absolutely perfect day. I have no doubt in my mind that someone was watching out for us a month ago on that day, and had a hand in keeping us dry.
In the simplicity of our planning, we decided to go with a local florist, Rick’s House of Flowers. Rick was amazing to work with and had such wonderful ideas for the few floral pieces that we wanted. Our arrangements were a great blend of color for the first official day of Fall. Another wonderful touch to the day was our photographer Carisa with Simply Stated. I have the pleasure and honor of calling her my friend. She did an amazing job of capturing all of our special moments, and of course it was so nice to work with someone we knew.
A few other highlights of our wedding day that I will forever remember are thanks to our DJ Ed, from Sound Sensations. He really understood the day we were trying to create. Music is such a great story teller, and Ed did an amazing job helping us show our friends and family how much we truly love one another. He had unique ideas to keep the crowd energized as well. After dinner we did a photo race, and the wedding party did a scavenger hunt. My all-time favorite moment of the night was our first dance. Our song was Etta James-At Last. We had met with our DJ prior and pre-recorded the two of us explaining our love story. When the song played that night, the first 2 minutes was our recording with soft instrumental music playing in the background, which then lead directly into Etta James singing. I think it was definitely a moment that people will remember.
And of course, what better way to capture the day, than by the use of StoryMix?! Andy and I thought it was a perfect idea to have our close friends videotape the day. It added that personal touch which is just what we wanted.
Well now that the day is long over, I can whole heartedly say that our wedding was everything we hoped it would be and more. Sharing such a momentous time in your life with those that mean the most to you is truly amazing. My advice to any bride-to-be is to take your time, and really enjoy what’s all going on around you, from the minute the planning starts, to your last dance. Sharing all of those special moments with the love of your life are things you will remember forever. You only do this once, so smile along the way, hold hands through the ups and down, and enjoy the ride together.
